The arts corner, on the 6th day of the Al Dhafra Book Festival 2023, organised by the Abu Dhabi Arabic Language Centre, included a number of inspiring artistic workshops, where participants learned how to draw complete paintings using sheets of tree leaves, with the aim of spreading a message to strengthen the connection between humans and nature, under the supervision of the visual artist Huda Al Hammadi. Participants also took part in a workshop where they learned about the art of caricature, including its historical roots, early pioneers, and clarification of the most distinctive types of this art in terms of content, form, and style, and they participated in practical applications of caricature drawings under the supervision of the cartoonist Ashraf Hossam.
Participants also learned the basics of drawing on wooden pieces and how to transform them into creative products that can be used or turned into artistic pieces, all under the supervision of the artist Fatima Al Hammadi, as well as learning about the various Arabic calligraphy and the tools used in Arabic calligraphy, under the supervision of the calligraphist Ali Abdullah Al Hammadi.
On the other hand, the session "The Relationship of Arab Youth Today with the Linguistic Heritage of the Arabic Language" discussed the relationship of Arab youth today with the linguistic heritage of the Arabic language, and how we can preserve it, as well as the presence of the Arabic language in digital content, challenges, possibilities, and the link between the visual identity of language and art. The speakers in the session included Jawaher Al Ameri, a high-energy laser specialist and senior researcher at the Technological Innovation Institute, and Ahmad Rachdan, the Linguist of the content for the Arab Reading Challenge for the last three seasons, who were moderated by Amer bin Mohamad, the writer and presenter of the “Bil Fus’ha” show and founder of the “Howiyya”project.
The festival also celebrated the poet Abdulla Omar Bakheet Al Mansoori, who has begun writing poetry at the age of 13, as part of the "Poetry Nights: Voices Loved by People" programme at Madinat Zayed's public park theatre, where Al Mansoori spoke about his life's story, significant literary contributions, and sung poems, and the poet was interviewed by Obaid bin Qadlan Al Mazrouei, with the poet's most famous poems performed by the singer Qusai Al Maamari.
The Al Ain Book Festival 2024, organised by the Abu Dhabi Arabic Language Centre (ALC), has seen a significant increase in publisher registration requests for its 15th edition reaching 260 requests, marking an increase of 73% compared to the previous edition. Around 137 exhibitors took advantage of the 10% early bird discount offered by the ALC.
